Talking Groups

It is important to us at Summercroft, that we involve pupils in a wide range of issues concerning the life of our school community. From Year 1 through to Year 6 every child belongs to a ‘Talking Group’. Talking groups meet weekly on a Thursday and follow a three week model.

Week 1
Learning playground games.

Week 2
Discussing a Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education theme.

Week 3
Agenda items to discuss school issues.

In week 3, our year 6 pupils are encouraged to run and minute areas for discussion, consulting all the children in the Talking Group. Information is then fed back by the Year 6 children to a member of the Leadership Team. This way, we believe, all pupils are encouraged to have input into school life. Recently, the children have contributed to changing organising charity events in school and ideas for the Christmas Fair. Talking groups are mini families within our whole school community and benefit from forging links with children across the age groups and keep contact with, in many cases, an additional member of staff other than their class teacher. They are also used as the basis for our House teams on Sports Days and for organising the children during Decoration Day.
